Fort Mountain State Park – 21
Site 21 at Fort Mountain State Park is a pull-thru in the creek side campground (we were in the lake side campground last time.) Both campgrounds are gated which was nice with all of the day visitors coming into the park. Site 21 is at the very end of the loop right before the entrance/exit. Most of the sites in this campground provide lots of shade and have plenty of room between each site. Sites 13-21 on the outside have trails to a small creek that we could hear from our campsite at night.

Duckett Mill Campground – 73
08.30.19-09.02.19 Duckett Mill Campground is located in Gainesville, GA on Lake Lanier. It offers 97 sites with electric/water and 14 tent-only sites. The boat ramp is located right outside the campground gate, which makes me wonder if it gets more traffic than just campers. The beach is located on the right when you drive into the campground. It never seemed to be crowded, probably because most sites are located right on the water. When researching Duckett Mill, I did not find facebook posts about people’s favorite sites or anything beyond a google search that pulled up a blog similar to this one. The Crafty Camping Mom posted about their…

Shady Grove Campground
05.17.19-05.19.19 Shady Grove Campground is located on the west side of Lake Lanier in Cumming, Georgia. Previously a Corps of Engineers campground, it is currently owned by Forsyth County Parks and Recreation. The campground is set up on a peninsula with a large number of the 96 total sites having waterfront access. Shady Grove Campground includes a large beach area, boat dock, and playground. We really enjoyed that the roads (and sites) were heavily shaded, making for better walks with the dogs. Shady Grove Campground is the third Lake Lanier campground we have visited since starting the adventures in our travel trailer. Bolding Mill Campground and Bald Ridge Campground are…

High Falls State Park
04.05.19-04.07.19 High Falls has been on my list of must see Georgia State Parks since we bought our camper. The High Falls Dam creates a scenic place for picnics, while further down the Towaliga River are some of the most breathtaking falls. Originally we were scheduled for site 89 in February, but due to a doctor visit and interview we rescheduled. Man am I glad we did! Site 89 on the website map makes it seem like it is riverside, private, with a path to the river. (Update: They have now fixed this on the website.) The paper map handed out at the park correctly has it placed across the…

Desoto State Park – AL
11.02.18-11.04.18 Desoto Falls State Park has been on my bucket list of campgrounds since we bought our camper. This was the perfect time to go with the leaves changing colors. Desoto State Park is located atop Lookout Mountain, just inside the northern Alabama/Georgia line. This campground is not far from Cloudland Canyon State Park. Desoto includes a gated campground with 94 sites and 25 cabins. The camp store was well stocked, but happened to be out of firewood this weekend. During the summer season they have an Olympic-size pool for a daily fee. The state park also has a restaurant that serves a traditional seafood buffet, steak dinner, or general…
