We booked McKinney Campground in Acworth, GA on Lake Allatoona for Spring Break about four months ahead. The reservations for Corps of Engineer parks opens six months out and many of the sites were already booked. Red Top Mountain State Park
11.24.21-11.28.21 Full hook-up site for Thanksgiving was the way to go! Red Top Mountain State Park is located in Acworth, GA on Lake Allatoona. The state park is 1776 acres with 15 miles of hiking trails. Named for its red soil, the park used to be an important mining area. Red Top Mountain State Park has 93 campsites, 1 yurt, 20 cottages, and 1 pioneer campground. The state park is in the middle of renovations projects and we were impressed with the work they have done so far. 10.20.21-10.24.21 McKinney Campground COE is finally open, after two years of construction on their sewer system. Thank goodness, because this park is our go-to on Lake Allatoona. McKinney Campground is a Corps of Engineers park located on Lake Allatoona in Acworth, Georgia. It is in close proximity to highway 75 and a great option if you need to camp somewhat close to Atlanta. McKinney Campground is the only COE campground that is open year-round on Lake Allatoona. Old Highway 41 No. 3 Campground
09.03.21-09.06.21 We finally gave Old Highway 41 No. 3 campground in Cartersville, GA a chance and we are so glad we did! Old Highway 41 No. 3 Campground is a Corps of Engineers campground on Lake Allatoona. Unfortunately it is only open May 13 – September 5 (Labor Day). The campground has 50 sites, many of them waterfront. There is a playground, boat ramp (no dock), and dump station. The location of the campground is the big negative. Clark Creek North Campground -14
05.21.21-05.23.21 Clark Creek is located in Acworth, GA on Lake Allatoona. The campground is owned and operated by Bartow County Parks and Recreation. Split by the road, the park has two campgrounds—north and south. We stayed at Clark Creek North once before, in the early spring. The lake was still low and it was cold outside.
