McKinney Campground – 15
3.23.18-3.25.18 Attention! McKinney Campground has changed some rules. Some of these will not affect the majority, however a couple will. For more details on the campground, view the blog post on our first visit to McKinney Campground. First, the most important rule to my family, what kept us from going to McKinney all last summer – the maximum dog limit is now three (before being two)!!! Why the maximum at all? I don’t know, doesn’t make sense to me either. Second, the previous walk-up only sites, 31-40, are now reservable like the rest of the park. No longer will anyone be rushing over to the park at 8 a.m. on…

Fort Mountain State Park
11.10.17-11.12.17 Fort Mountain State Park is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest in North Georgia. At the top of the mountain hikers will find a stone fire tower built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, open for tours on the weekends. The drive up the mountain has quite a few curves, but our truck did great. There are two overlooks that you can pull off for an epic picture, however it was dark on the way up and foggy on the way down – so we didn’t stop. The park includes a 17 acre lake with paddle boats to rent in the summer, a sand beach, and a putt-putt course. The…

Cloudland Canyon State Park
10.20.17-10.22.17 Cloudland Canyon State Park is a hidden treasure in Northwest Georgia. Known for both its waterfalls and large outlook, the park attracts huge crowds during the fall when the leaves change colors. The park includes all levels of hiking, easy to strenuous. The Overlook is an easy walk down a paved path from the parking lot. The waterfalls can only be accessed by a strenuous hike down about 2000 steps. Cloudland also offers an 18-hole disc golf course, fishing pond, trails for horseback riding, and a small nature museum. Multiple caves can be found throughout the park and you can even sign up for tours from the rangers. Cloudland…

Huntington Beach State Park
9.22.17-9.27.17 Fall Break…Anniversary Trip…Beach that allows dogs?! We loved Huntington Beach State Park and can’t wait to go back. It was so much fun getting to watch the dogs jump in the waves and we enjoyed eating out instead of our usual campground meals. Huntington Beach State Park is located in Murrells Inlet, SC, just south of Myrtle Beach. The park’s entrance is welcoming, with at bridge over the freshwater lagoon and saltwater marsh. Multiple viewing docks can be accessed along the walkway with lots of wildlife, including alligators. The park office is well stocked with ice, firewood, refreshments, and souvenirs. Atalaya House is just a short walk from the…
