Boondocking – Greensboro, GA
03.18.22-03.20.22 Boondocking – When you camp without water, electric, and sewer hookups. Sometimes referred to as dry camping. In the six years that we have owned our camper, we made reservations and stayed at campgrounds with electrical and water hookups. This trip was our first time boondocking and everything went great with the process—we are already looking forward to the next time. Our friends from Virginia came down to Greensboro, GA for a US Sprint Enduro dirt bike race. All five family members raced during the weekend, including the three little girls. As soon as we were invited, we canceled our reservation at the state park and started researching generators. …

Fort Yargo State Park
02.18.22-02.21.22 Our family opened the 2022 camping season by checking off another state park, Fort Yargo. Three-day weekends mean we can drive a little farther and this trip took us about 2 hours east to Winder, GA. Fort Yargo State Park opened in 1954, but the log fort used to provide protection to the settlers was built in 1792. The state park is situated around a 260-acre lake that is great for jon boats, kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes. The other main attraction to the park is the 20 miles of trails for mountain biking. Fort Yargo State Park has two campground loops, 6 yurts, and 16 cottages. In total…

Red Top Mountain State Park
11.24.21-11.28.21 Full hook-up site for Thanksgiving was the way to go! Red Top Mountain State Park is located in Acworth, GA on Lake Allatoona. The state park is 1776 acres with 15 miles of hiking trails. Named for its red soil, the park used to be an important mining area. Red Top Mountain State Park has 93 campsites, 1 yurt, 20 cottages, and 1 pioneer campground. The state park is in the middle of renovations projects and we were impressed with the work they have done so far. They removed the putt putt course and built a unique picnic area looking down over the beach. We have never used the…

McKinney Campground – 34
10.20.21-10.24.21 McKinney Campground COE is finally open, after two years of construction on their sewer system. Thank goodness, because this park is our go-to on Lake Allatoona. McKinney Campground is a Corps of Engineers park located on Lake Allatoona in Acworth, Georgia. It is in close proximity to highway 75 and a great option if you need to camp somewhat close to Atlanta. McKinney Campground is the only COE campground that is open year-round on Lake Allatoona. The campground has 150 campsites with electric and water hookups. There are not any sites with sewer hookups. McKinney has two beaches, one playground, and a boat ramp. This campground is so popular…

Cloudland Canyon State Park – 15
10.01.21-10.03.21 Found our favorite site at Cloudland Canyon State Park, too bad it is already booked solid in the fall of 2022. Our first trip to Cloudland Canyon happened in 2017, the year we bought the camper. We stayed on site 43 in the West Rim and will continue to book West Rim because we prefer the more spread out and wooded campsites. East Rim is great for proximity to the main overlook. (See details/photos about our October 2017 stay at site 43 in Cloudland). Cloudland Canyon State park has recently redone their campsite numbers and added a couple new spots. Information reflects the new campsite numbers, however the photos…
