Huntington Beach State Park
9.22.17-9.27.17 Fall Break…Anniversary Trip…Beach that allows dogs?! We loved Huntington Beach State Park and can’t wait to go back. It was so much fun getting to watch the dogs jump in the waves and we enjoyed eating out instead of our usual campground meals. Huntington Beach State Park is located in Murrells Inlet, SC, just south of Myrtle Beach. The park’s entrance is welcoming, with at bridge over the freshwater lagoon and saltwater marsh. Multiple viewing docks can be accessed along the walkway with lots of wildlife, including alligators. The park office is well stocked with ice, firewood, refreshments, and souvenirs. Atalaya House is just a short walk from the…

Vogel State Park
02.16.24-02.19.24 Vogel State Park is located in Blairsville, Georgia, at the bottom of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. It’s ranked as one of the top parks in the state of Georgia as it’s surrounded by mountains, offers a well stocked lake, and waterfall. The 22-acre lake allows for non-motorized boats and paddle boat rentals are available. Next to the well stocked visitors center is a putt putt course and playground. Many miles of hiking trails can be found throughout the park. The campground recently went through upgrades and the campsite numbers have changed since our previous visits. There are 34 cottages, 90 campsites with water/electricity, and 18 walk-in…

Bald Ridge Campground – 25
7.20.17-7.25.17 Taking advantage of my summer break, Heather set me up a day early at Bald Ridge Campground, on Lake Lanier. This was our second stay at Bald Ridge and we knew the campground was going to be one of our favorites in the summer. [See details and map of Bald Ridge Campground from my first post.] We particularly love swimming and kayaking in the lake. The water level at Lanier is low and a bit muddy, but you don’t really have to worry about rocks like other lakes in GA. This trip we reserved site 25, a pull through. Once we got there we were worried that it would be…

FDR State Park
7.13.17-7.16.17 FDR State Park is located southwest of Atlanta in Pine Mountain, GA. It is Georgia’s largest state park, over 9,000 acres and plenty of trails to hike. For a History/Nature lover like me, this park is a dream. The most popular spot is an overlook that President Franklin D. Roosevelt often used for a picnic, called Dowdell’s Knob. At the overlook a full size bronze sculpture can be found of FDR himself and a grill that FDR built. There are multiple historical sites at the park that FDR had the Civil Conservation Corps build during the Great Depression. The Liberty Bell Pool is a fan favorite, and overcrowded during…
