Santee State Park – SC
03.29.19-04.03.19 Santee State Park is located on Lake Marion about an hour inland from Charleston, SC. That puts it at about a 5-hour drive for us pulling the camper, but does not include the terrible Atlanta traffic. What personally drew us to this state park? A close friend recently took a job there as a ranger! What might draw others to Santee? It is great for fishing, kayaking, and everyone seems to have a boat. This state park is huge (2500 acres), so with that everything is spread out. We had to drive to any trails we wanted to hike. It was a ten-minute drive to the camp store and…

Coneross Campground
06.29.18-07.01.18 Found a hidden gem on Lake Hartwell and can’t wait to go back! We were visiting a friend in Townville, SC for the weekend and she just happens to live five minutes from Coneross Campground. It is a Corps of Engineers Park near the GA/SC border. I say hidden gem because when searching on Facebook groups it seems that most of the posts are older. Coneross campground has 105 sites, twelve of them being primitive, non-hookup sites. We walked the entire campground Saturday morning and noticed that we would be really happy with the majority of the sites. The waterfront sites were just gorgeous! We didn’t book in time…

Pine Ridge Campground
05.18.18-05.20.18 First time at a privately owned campground, first time at a full hook up. Pine Ridge Campground is located in Roebuck, South Carolina about 10 minutes outside of downtown Spartanburg and an hour away from Greenville. We chose this campground because it was convenient to our friends’ house that we were visiting for the weekend. The campground is owned by a family, but we only ever came across Evan (their son) and a younger boy who stopped by to make sure we knew where we were going when we pulled in. The campsites can be rented by the night, week, or month. We were a little wary about going…

Huntington Beach State Park
9.22.17-9.27.17 Fall Break…Anniversary Trip…Beach that allows dogs?! We loved Huntington Beach State Park and can’t wait to go back. It was so much fun getting to watch the dogs jump in the waves and we enjoyed eating out instead of our usual campground meals. Huntington Beach State Park is located in Murrells Inlet, SC, just south of Myrtle Beach. The park’s entrance is welcoming, with at bridge over the freshwater lagoon and saltwater marsh. Multiple viewing docks can be accessed along the walkway with lots of wildlife, including alligators. The park office is well stocked with ice, firewood, refreshments, and souvenirs. Atalaya House is just a short walk from the…

McDowell Nature Preserve Campground
06.29.17-07.03.17 Finding a campground near a large city can be pretty difficult. We planned to meet friends and celebrate a birthday at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, N.C. It took a lot of research to find something that we liked near the park. It was also going to be a much longer drive from home than our two previous trips. After many google searches we came across McDowell Nature Preserve on Lake Wylie. McDowell Nature Preserve is 1,132 acres and while the campsites are not on the lake, it’s just a short hike to enjoy the view. On campus the nature preserve features live animals, a discovery hall,…
