Pine Ridge Campground

First time at a privately owned campground, first time at a full hook up.

Pine Ridge Campground

Pine Ridge Campground is located in Roebuck, South Carolina about 10 minutes outside of downtown Spartanburg and an hour away from Greenville.

Camping with Dogs

We chose this campground because it was convenient to our friends’ house that we were visiting for the weekend. The campground is owned by a family, but we only ever came across Evan (their son) and a younger boy who stopped by to make sure we knew where we were going when we pulled in. The campsites can be rented by the night, week, or month. We were a little wary about going to a campground  where people stayed long-term because sometimes it turns out to be more of a trailer park, however this was the complete opposite.

The family who owns this campground has really paid attention to what campers might want/need in addition to their site. The focal point of the campground was the catch and release fish pond. It was amazing how clear the water was and how big the koi fish were. The lake also attracted SO many ducks, right outside our camper door—took me by surprise in the morning. The pond is big enough for paddle boats, which they have available to rent off the small dock.

Across the campground from our site was a large pavilion with picnic tables and multiple sets of cornhole boards. A horseshoe course, large plastic connect four game, and a basketball hoop were just a couple feet away from the pavilion. The other common area in the campground was a well built campfire ring. If you check out Pine Ridge’s Facebook page you can tell they do multiple events at these two spots.

Pine Ridge Campground also has a game room and decent size pool. We found the dog park on the LAST walk of the weekend before we packed up. Too bad, because our pups would have loved to be off leash playing with our friends’ dog. The playground was a hit for our friends’ two-year-old and it looked like sometimes they had an inflatable jumpy set up (not this weekend though.) I happened to go into the bathroom to throw away a bag of dog poop and I popped right out talking about how nice it was. Heather wasn’t sure if I was being sarcastic or not because I said it so quickly. We never used their facilities, but they were nice! The laundry facilities were in a cute little cabin next to the bathroom, near the playground.

We booked this trip two months ahead of time and had about two options to reserve sites where we would be next to our friends. Sites 8a and 8b were fantastic for us! Both were long pull-thrus, with the back window looking out to the pond. Our friends got there Thursday night and choose 8B on the end. We parked our camper on 8A strategically so that we would have plenty of room between the two campers, knowing we would be using their picnic table and fire pit to hang out at. Right next to our site was a cabin available to rent. A couple of cabins are spread throughout the campground, some even could be considered tiny homes.

Evan recommended FR8 Yard in downtown Spartanburg if we were looking to go out to eat and enjoy a drink in a patio setting. We couldn’t have been more happy that he gave us that recommendation because this place was AWESOME. We parked on the street behind it, but the primary access can be found on Main Street. This place is kid friendly and dog friendly, however we left our pups back in the camper. Pictured below is the menu that you order from at the counter. The seating area includes long tables and multiple shaded areas to get out of the South Carolina heat. Their kitchen and bathrooms are really a sight to see. Made out of storage containers, they added a roof top patio that looks down on the long tables and is eye level with the extra large tv. Great place to come watch a ball game.

I can’t say for sure, but I believe the putt putt course that was behind it is actually owned/run by someone else. It seemed as though people were getting their clubs and balls from elsewhere. It really added to the atmosphere though and made for some great pictures. Thanks Evan, for this recommendation!

Packing up Sunday was extra easy because we were able to empty and clean the tanks at our site. We were only there for the weekend so we didn’t hook up our tanks until we needed to empty them. What a change from having to wait in line and stress about people waiting on you.

Things we learned:

1. Wish we have more friends who owned campers. This weekend was so much fun pulling in next to our friends and them having their own space. Unfortunately, they live in Virginia. We plan to make it a tradition to meet for a long weekend in the summer halfway between us. Any suggestions for campgrounds near Charlotte?

2. Full hookups are great, but Heather made a good point—it’s kind of gross that everyone is going through this process at their site. What if someone has an accident or something drips? It has its pros and cons, but I definitely think the pros outweigh the cons.

3. This campground gives a 10% discount if you tell them a joke and make them laugh. I’m not good when it comes to this type of stuff, so back in March when I was reserving the campground I asked Heather for a joke. “Did you hear about the frog’s car that broke down?! He got toad away.” I couldn’t have felt more dumb, but they gave me the discount and I always love to save money! The family who owns this campground just wants to make sure you have a good time and that they are able to put a smile on your face. We will be back next time we visit our friends. Thanks for having us!

Good review of this campground. We stayed there for a night several years ago as we were traveling through on our way north. We enjoyed our short stay. Can’t recommend campgrounds near Charlotte but there are a couple of COE parks farther north of there. We enjoyed Fort Hamby Park near Wilkesboro. We enjoyed Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy, too.

Great review! We love Spartanburg. That’s now where we prefer to go to have our diesel serviced-at the Cummins service center. We can stay for free there while having it serviced – butbits electric only. The first time, we were there for a week (we had a major repair). We literally fell in love with Spartanburg and wanted to stay a few more days but we didn’t see this park! Now we know and we’ll probably try it. We prefer full hook ups! We’ve never encountered a problem with neighbors spilling or dripping. We almost only stay at full hook ups.
I can’t remember how close this Campground is to Charlotte but it’s amazing- Dan Nichols Park. We blogged about it here: https://thetumblelees.me/2017/05/08/2017-summer-travels-lets-go/

Nice Review, we will definitely put this one on our places to go.

As far as Charlotte NC, there is McDowell Nature Persevere, we stayed 5 nights, had friends and their RV traveling with is, we both took bikes and both enjoyed it. We went to Charlotte for stepson’s hs graduation and events. Their is a rail terminal about 15 minutes drive away so you can go into the city of you want without the struggle of traffic or finding a park spot.
Also on our way from AL we made a halfway stop at a nice little gem of a campground in GA, on Lake Oconee,
PARKS FERRY Campground, it is a GA Power owned campground. The layout is very nice, sites are large, they have a boat ramp, a Recreational Beach area, playground, water / electric sites, and dumpstation . The camp host when we where there was very nice.
We will definitely go back !!!!
